There are many benefits to living a healthy lifestyle. It can make you feel better physically and mentally, save money, and even boost your self-confidence in the kitchen!

However, achieving this goal isn’t easy. It’s especially difficult to get rid of pubic fat, also known as a “camel toe,” or the mons pubis.

Weight loss

Many women suffer from sweaty groin areas because of excess weight. The apocrine sweat glands in the groin area, which are also located on the armpits, nipples and ear canals, produce an oily fluid that’s absorbed by bacteria in skin folds that can trap moisture, leading to an odor. A healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and low-fat dairy can help reduce the amount of sweat you produce. Garlic, with its antifungal and antiseptic properties, may also be helpful. Tea tree oil is another natural deodorizer that can be applied directly to the groin area.

Avoid douche products, which can remove the healthy bacteria your body needs and lead to an infection. In addition, the chemicals used in most feminine sprays aren’t able to be broken down by your body and enter your bloodstream.

Exercise

The area around the external genitals has special sweat glands called apocrine, which secrete an oily fluid that’s metabolized by bacteria on the skin. This causes an odor, which can be more prominent in tight clothing or in skin folds for those who carry excess weight. A healthy diet, regular exercise and a clean, dry groin can prevent the odor and make you feel more confident.

Squats, which are known as a glute-builder, are also effective for tightening the muscles of your pelvic floor and vaginal wall. You can do these exercises at home without a gym membership or equipment. Start with a standing position and plant your feet about hip distance apart. Then, sit your hips back as if you were going to sit in a chair. Repeat for 10 to 20 repetitions daily.

You can also perform kegels, which are a tried-and-true method for combating laxity in the tissue and muscles of the vaginal vault. These are exercises you can do while sitting down, and they can be performed anywhere.

Vaginal surgery

Vaginal surgery is an option for women who are unhappy with the tightness or shape of their vulva. It can reduce pain, improve sexual function, and increase sensitivity. However, it is important to remember that there are nonsurgical alternatives. Targeted Kegel-like exercises can tone weak vaginal muscles and enhance sexual arousal, and counseling may help address concerns about sexual self-esteem and confidence.

Many gynecologists and plastic surgeons now offer cosmetic vaginal procedures marketed as “vaginal rejuvenation” and “designer vaginas.” These surgeries claim to tighten the loose muscles of the lower labia (the inner lips of the vagina). In some cases, these operations can also change the appearance of the mons pubis, or breastbone, by making it more prominent.

The primary reasons for vaginal surgery are to repair a surgically created vagina or to treat urinary incontinence or sexual dysfunction due to childbirth or the natural ageing process. Other reasons include desire for a more youthful or firmer genital area, and a perceived lack of sexual pleasure in women with a lax vaginal wall.

During vaginal surgery, doctors usually remove the vulva and reconstruct a new one using skin and muscle from the inner thigh. The procedure can take several months to complete, and the woman will need to keep her vulva open by using a dilator or by having regular sexual intercourse until it is healed. The patient should also use a water-soluble lubricant during sexual intercourse.

Over-the-counter products

There are a number of things you can do to get rid of vaginal fat and reduce the embarrassing smell of a sweaty groin. It’s important to exercise regularly and wear loose, cotton underwear. This helps prevent bacteria from accumulating under your clothes. Women with excess weight should also avoid tight-fitting clothing. This can cause the groin area to sweat and can create a damp environment that encourages yeast growth, which causes a foul smell. It’s also important to refrain from douching because it can throw off the body’s natural balance and can lead to irritation. You should also avoid feminine sprays because they can contain chemicals that aren’t broken down by the thin skin of the genital area and may irritate the skin.

Other things that can help eliminate a bad vaginal odor include consuming probiotics (like those found in yogurt, miso, kimchi, sauerkraut and kefir) which can balance the pH levels of the vulva and help reduce yeast infections like Candida; reducing your sugar intake since yeast thrives on sugar; drinking cranberry juice to reduce UTI’s; using over-the-counter lubricants that are specially formulated for the external genitals; and taking neem bark extract, which has antifungal and antibacterial properties. In addition, drinking plenty of water is helpful because it hydrates the mucous membranes that line the external genitals.
